Exploring Cape Province
Walking and sightseeing in Cape Province.
OverviewVaried and delightfully scenic, this holiday offers some of the best walking and sightseeing in the southernmost part of South Africa.
We start in Stellenbosch, one of the oldest and most beautiful of the wineland towns. We visit Franschhoek and walk in the surrounding hills where it may be possible to visit a local vineyard. Moving on, we travel to Oudtshoorn in between the Little and Great Karoo, for two nights at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains. The views from here are awe-inspiring and you’ll have trouble tearing yourself away.
Travelling through to the other side of the Swartberg Mountains we come to our next stop, Prince Albert. First settled by the Dutch in 1762 it boasts fine examples of well preserved Cape Dutch, Karoo and Victorian architecture.
From Prince Albert, we travel south to the wonderful coastline at Knysna to walk in the National Parks.
Moving onto our final destination we follow the garden route back to Cape Town, where we’ll ascend Table Mountain, visit Cape of Good Hope and Kirstenbosch, South Africa’s Kew Gardens. There will also be time to explore the attractive older parts of the city.
Please note: On some days, especially allowing for the heat and terrain, the walks can be at the top of the grade.
