Cross country skiing in Engadine, Switzerland
One week cross-country skiing in Switzerland. Altitude: 1470m
OverviewHigh and remote, fringed with perfect alpine peaks rising to well over 3000m, the Engadine has an enviable snow record. With villages in the valley between 1200m and 1800m and skiable areas up to 2000m, great snow is a near certainty. During our week’s skiing we pass through woods, glistening meadows and charming alpine villages. Easy cross-country skiing loipen weave their way along the valley floor near Zernez, made all the more accessible by the excellent trains and post buses. Further afield there are easy loipen above St Moritz on the lakes to Maloja. At the end of our week there are more challenging options to explore both locally and near Livigno and Val Mustair.
The villages are full of ancient stone chalets whose thick walls and tiny windows keep out the crisp winter air.
The Hotel Baer und Post in Zernez where we stay is a real find. It has modern well-furnished rooms, a sauna and spoils us with a buffet breakfast and an excellent four course dinner. Zernez is a tranquil place, poised between the Upper and Lower Engadine.
The holiday includes ski, pole and boot hire for six days. We include formal instruction on the first morning; thereafter, your leader will assist and encourage.
