Biblical Footsteps
A Journey through the Holy Land. Israel & Palestine.
OverviewPositioned between Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and at the centre of the three major religions, the Holy Land is an extraordinary destination. Within this small region there is so much to offer the visitor; green valleys, forests and farmland of the north, rocky mountains and hills of the desert, beautiful sandy beaches of the Mediterranean coastline, and of course the historic sites and towns with names we all know, such as Jerusalem, Jericho, Nazareth, and Bethlehem.
Our journey begins in the Palestinian town of Bethlehem, where we'll visit the Church of the Nativity and explore the surrounding area before walking in the spectacular Wadi Qelt from St George's Monastery to Jericho, our second centre in Palestine, and reputedly the world's oldest town. We continue to Ein Gedi, where we'll enjoy a float in the Dead Sea, and climb the hill top fortress of Masada where we'll enjoy sunrise across the Judean desert.
The terrain changes as we travel northwards and the rocky hills and mountains make way for the lush greenery of the Galilee. We visit the biblical town of Nazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus, before we continue to Tiberias, located on the shores of the Sea of Galilee and the gateway to the beautiful north. Our walks here take us through beautiful and gentle scenery, to waterfalls and nature reserves and following Lake Kinneret's contours with views of the Mount of Beatitudes.
Arriving into Jerusalem we'll explore the Old City on foot seeing the Dome of the Rock, Western Wall and Church of the Holy Sepulchre; Mount of Olives, overlooking the city and partly covered in olive trees; Mt. Zion, now located outside the Old City walls, and the Garden of Gethsemane. We'll also visit the Israel Museum to see the Dead Sea Scrolls in the Shrine of the Book.
The Holy Land is a truly fascinating place and this journey will lead us through ancient history, culture and religions, provide an insight into continuing cultural and political realities and offer great walking in stunning surroundings. This is one of the most fascinating and exciting destinations on earth! You have to see it for yourself!

I started leading for Countrywide Holidays in 1970 and spent summers at their guest houses in Snowdonia, the Lake District and Scotland. I went on to act as a guide for the Austrian Alpine Club. My career and family commitments took me away from leading but when the opportunity arose I started again in the late 1990s.
