A Roman Holiday
Archaeology, Christianity and the Colosseum with walking and sightseeing in Rome
OverviewRome - a perfect city in which to enjoy the pleasures of travel. The city oozes history and charm and much of its historic centre is pedestrianised. No other city has so much art still in the places for which it was produced - family chapels by Bernini, altar paintings by Caravaggio, early Christian Mosaics, interior decoration by Raphael.
Rome is a surprisingly easy city to navigate on foot. From our centrally located hotel most parts are within easy reach and we will make use of public transport to reach further afield. We will also get out of the city into the hills to the south and east of the city. Villa d’Este and the Alban hills provide very pleasant contrast.

I started leading for Countrywide Holidays in 1970 and spent summers at their guest houses in Snowdonia, the Lake District and Scotland. I went on to act as a guide for the Austrian Alpine Club. My career and family commitments took me away from leading but when the opportunity arose I started again in the late 1990s.
