A Journey through Mexico

A captivating journey in the footsteps of Cortes.
Overview

Mexico probably has the finest Hispanic heritage in all the Americas. It jealously guards its remarkable inheritance from the Aztecs and Maya (among many other ancient civilisations) and has many of the world’s greatest natural, cultural, scenic, historic and unpronounceable wonders.

We start in Mexico City, built around an original Aztec City. From here we visit the floating gardens at Xochimilco, the Aztec ruins at Teotihuacán and the cathedral at Guadalupe.

Flying east we arrive at Villahermosa and continue to the Mayan jungle temples at Palenque. We climb up into the central mountains to San Cristobal de las Casas to enjoy the walking and indigenous culture. Crossing the watershed we travel down to the Pacific coast near Tehuantepec. From here we go down to dip our toes in the ocean before continuing to the world heritage site of Oaxaca to walk in the hills and take in the Zapotec site of Monte Alban.

We stop for a night at the colonial town of Cuernavaca before visiting Taxco, where silver has been mined and turned into beautiful jewellery since Aztec times. Finally returning to Mexico City we have a free day to relax.
