Ramblers Worldwide Holidays Leaders turn a good holiday into a great one!
Our leaders’ primary role is to make sure that you have a safe and enjoyable holiday, be it on the world’s most beautiful walks or in the many fascinating villages and cities we visit. They are often mines of information on local history and the natural world. Many are accomplished linguists, allowing you to get a deeper insight into local cultures. All of our leaders have a walking qualification and appropriate first aid training… but we know that it’s the people skills that you value most highly in our leaders.
On most holidays, the tour leader takes one rest day a week, allowing you a free day too!
We have a team of over 300 leaders worldwide, each with their own individual style, particular talents and favourite destinations. They help make your guided walking holiday experience extra special, so let’s meet a few...
Simon Cane
In 2002 Simon decided he preferred the outdoors, and so gave up his IT management job and started leading for Ramblers Worldwide Holidays. He has gone over the Col de Balme 11 times so far on either the Tour du Mont Blanc or the Haute Route. He is fluent in French and German and has a special interest in flora and geology.
Keith and Theresa Milton
Keith and Theresa enjoy walking and leading at any level. Both retired early from management careers in 1998 and guided walking for Ramblers Worldwide Holidays has allowed them to continue their love of travelling. They have experience in Europe, North and South America, India and New Zealand. Keith’s interest in the natural world – particularly birds – provides an added dimension to all their tours.
Annette Cotter
Annette took very early retirement from investment management to lead for Ramblers Worldwide Holidays. You’ll find her leading in the world’s wilder places (the more remote the better) – nothing fazes her! She also loves sightseeing tours such as St Petersburg, leads our downhill ski programme and surveys new holidays. Her ambition is to still be trekking in Patagonia at the age of 85!
Sam Roebuck
Sam has been leading for Ramblers Worldwide Holidays since 2006. Interested in all things Roman, he can usually be found giving his infamous 'Little Lectures' on tours with a strong Roman content, like our 'Hadrian's Wall' tour. The Emperor Hadrian was once referred to as a 'Curiositatum Omnium Explorator' (searcher for the new and interesting), a phrase that could just as easily describe Sam.
Bill Kenney
Bill lived aboard for 38 years in Malta, Arabia, Germany and Holland, before retiring to Mumbles. After a varied and interesting career in the army he joined Ramblers Worldwide Holidays in 2000 to continue travelling. A ski instructor; as well as leading skiing and winter walking he enjoys leading in the Alps, Oman, Syria and Jordan, Morocco, the Mediterranean, Hong Kong and China. His experience aboard and languages are often put to good use, and he always endeavours to maximise the holiday experience. Bill is interested in history and local customs and seeks to share his knowledge with our clients. Enthusiastic and well organised Bill researched the Ramblers Worldwide Holidays tour in Oman where he served attached to the SAS in the sixties.
