Our Great Journeys are holidays of a lifetime! 

With our Great Journeys you can follow in the footsteps of some of the great travellers of a bygone age, experiencing several far-flung and exotic destinations all in a single guided walking holiday of a lifetime.

Our Great Journeys are guided walking holidays that are longer in duration, take you across a wider region (often more than one country) and are generally lower grade, easier walking, staying in comfortable accommodation.

What can I expect?

We freely admit the journeys are not taxing for the high-grade walkers amongst you. All of our Great Journeys feature guided walking, generally at E grade, perhaps occasionally D grade, with some offering slightly more challenging walking.

You’ll generally stay in higher class accommodation - most people are surprised by the luxury of the hotels that we use on these holidays, making them great value for money.

Since we introduced our first great journey 'Walking Around the World' to celebrate the new Millennium, the chance to roam in several exciting destinations on a single holiday has caught the imagination of many.

The Australian Grand Tour

For many people, Australia is a once-in-a-lifetime trip - if you're going to do it just once, do it all! We spend 28 days exploring this amazing country, visiting five of the vast and different states. We start in Melbourne and, after a couple of days exploring the city, we follow the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide where we can enjoy the vineyards of the Barossa Valley and experience bush life on Kangaroo Island. Next into the desert, with Alice Springs and Uluru (Ayers Rock) just a couple of the highlights. We continue to Darwin on the north coast and the Great Barrier Reef. We finish the tour by flying to Sydney where we have plenty of time to discover this iconic city and the contrasting wilderness of the Blue Mountains.

 

In Search of the Silk Road

Another exciting holiday in our brochure is this 12-day adventure in Uzbekistan. Flying to Tashkent, we start our exploration of how life might have been for the silk road traders many centuries ago. We stay in three or four star hotels except for one night spent in a traditional yurt under the desert skies. With the opportunity to explore Alexander the Great's castle and cities such as Samarkand and Bukhara, we hope that this tour will prove to be a truly great journey!
