
John Ashley, who writes for The Bay in Swansea, went on a walking holiday to Crete this past Christmas. He has been kind enough to come on board as a guest blogger for us. Ash over Ireland – air traffic control strikes in Greece – would we ever get away for our week in Crete? We did, and wished things had got worse on these fronts on our return date for an enforced prolonged stay!
Phil and Sue Pont embarked on the Secrets of Southern Evia walking holiday in the midst of the ongoing BA strikes, but managed to arrive with a minimum of disruption. They went on to enjoy a wonderful time on this beautiful island off the coast of mainland Greece.
This was to be our 11th Ramblers Worldwide Holidays trip and we were eager to sample 5 of the Dodecanese Islands (12 Large and many of a smaller size). We had already rambled on Patmos and the nearby Samos islands, so we had some inkling of what to expect.
Wendy Twitchett went to the spectacular island of Lesvos for her bird watching walking holiday with Leader Barry Trevis in April. Wendy is no stranger to our blog and has also written about her holiday in India.
Pick out a highlight and write about it was one of the suggestions I received from Ramblers Worldwide Holidays. Not possible – in a holiday which was one long highlight. The walks varied from coastal paths to narrow gorges, and from lush mountain valleys to hilltops with splendid views. They were well up to expectation for grade D and not too arduous; although by the end of the holiday we all felt that we had had some very useful exercise.

Arthur and Carol Westing from the USA went on their walking holiday to Crete under the guidance of Tour Leader Kath Benson. Veterans of 18 Ramblers Worldwide Holidays tours Arthur and Carol declare this the best ever – until the next one I’m sure!
Douglas Buchanan has sent in an account of his walking holiday to Samos. Douglas says that it is a holiday that could definitely be done more than once because of the changing seasons. He was full of praise for the food and the locals who are extremely friendly and generous.

Richard and Margaret Monks from Canada have sent in a blog from their walking holiday “A Classic Greek Journey”. Luckily the volcano crisis didn’t affect them and they arrived back on schedule, having had a wonderful time by the sounds of things!.
