Walking Calvi & Corte 1160 |
Two weeks walking in Corsica from Calvi and Corte - half board | This is a classic walking holiday with fantastic contrast between two centres.
Calvi a wonderful centre uniquely dominated by a citadel built on a rock. A flat sandy beach five minutes walk from our hotel runs uninterrupted for five miles, the panorama of the beach and the mountain backdrop including Monte Cinto (the highest mountain on the island at over 2400m) is hard to beat.
Our walking programme mixes coastal and mountain routes. We walk through rural Corsican villages unchanged for hundreds of years, past churches, monasteries and chapels, ruined villages, up into the mountains to alpine huts and marvellous views.
Our second week is in Corte, a town that is full of Corsican character. The walks are very different in both terrain and walking content. We are in the mountains; the peaks above us rise to over 2000m and make a fantastic backdrop. Walking from the hotel and taking the local train gives us access to a huge area of high level walks, some right at the top of the grade.
